Where to drop your Christmas Tree off in Monmouth County

TINTON FALLS, N.J. – With National Take Down the Christmas Tree Day falling today, Monmouth County residents are being reminded to say goodbye to their evergreens responsibly. The January 6 observance marks the symbolic end of the 12 Days of Christmas and the Christian feast of Epiphany, when the Magi visited the newborn Jesus—a traditional cue to wrap up the holiday season and start the new year fresh.

For those in Monmouth County, the Monmouth County Reclamation Center (MCRC) in Tinton Falls serves as the primary destination for tree recycling.

The facility, open year-round, accepts natural Christmas trees once all decorations, lights, and stands are removed. Residents are urged to check the center’s website, mcrcnj.com, for any special holiday hours or drop-off fees before visiting.

Many municipalities across the county—including Asbury Park, Marlboro, and Red Bank—offer curbside pickup throughout January and February. Pickup schedules vary, so residents should confirm collection dates with their local Department of Public Works.

Several towns also host special drop-off events for residents who prefer to bring trees directly to designated sites.

Those living near the Ocean County line may also take advantage of Ocean County’s park system drop-off locations, such as Patriots County Park in Jackson, where trees are collected through the end of January for use in mulching projects.

In addition, some major retailers, including select Home Depot stores, participate in seasonal tree collection programs. Residents are encouraged to call ahead to confirm participation and hours.

Before heading out, county officials advise removing all lights, tinsel, ornaments, and stands to ensure trees can be safely processed and recycled.

Monmouth County provides multiple eco-friendly options for residents to recycle their Christmas trees and end the holiday season sustainably.
