JACKSON TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Firefighters have achieved significant progress in battling a wildfire that has burned 350 acres within the Colliers Mills Wildlife Management Area, officials reported on Wednesday. The blaze, which began in the area of Stump Tavern Road in Ocean County, is now 60% contained.
The New Jersey Forest Fire Service has deployed fire engines, bulldozers, and ground crews to combat the flames, which have threatened six structures in the area. However, no evacuations have been ordered, and all structures remain unscathed, according to the latest updates from fire officials.
Road closures have been implemented to ensure the safety of residents and firefighters working in the vicinity. Stump Tavern Road is currently closed from Route 571 to Route 528, causing detours in the area. Officials have not provided an estimate for when the road may reopen.
The wildfire is the latest in a series of forest fires the state has contended with this season, highlighting dry conditions and increased fire risk in forested regions. State fire officials remain at the scene, working to fully contain and control the blaze.
“We are grateful for the hard work of our firefighters and the cooperation of local residents as we work to bring this fire under control,” the Forest Fire Service said in a statement. Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area until the situation is fully resolved.
