Wilkes-Barre man arrested after early morning assault on Kidder Street

WILKES-BARRE, PA – A 33-year-old man was arrested early Saturday after police said he assaulted a woman during a domestic dispute on Kidder Street.

The incident occurred around 2:44 a.m. when officers responded to reports of an argument near Hortense and Kidder Streets.

Upon arrival, police found a 27-year-old woman who reported being struck in the face during the altercation.

Officers take suspect into custody

According to the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department, the victim told officers that the confrontation with the suspect, identified as Maverick Diaz of Wilkes-Barre, began as a verbal dispute but escalated into a physical attack. She sustained visible injuries to her eye and face.

Diaz was arrested at the scene without incident and transported to City Headquarters, where he was processed and arraigned on assault-related charges.

Investigation handled as domestic incident

Police said the case is being investigated as a domestic violence offense. The victim received medical attention for her injuries, and authorities confirmed that further proceedings will be handled through the Luzerne County court system.
