Woman airlifted after being struck on Route 9 in Berkeley Township

BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, N.J. – A woman was seriously injured Tuesday morning after walking into traffic and being struck by a vehicle on Route 9.

The crash occurred around 9:30 a.m. near 170 Route 9, prompting an immediate response from patrol units.

Emergency crews determined the woman’s injuries were severe enough to require air transport to Jersey Shore Medical Center.

Police investigating Route 9 crash

According to Berkeley Township Police, the woman reportedly stepped into the roadway when she was hit by an oncoming vehicle. The impact pushed her back onto the shoulder of the road.

First Aid and RWJ Medics treated the pedestrian at the scene before she was transferred to a landing zone and flown to the hospital. The airlift was completed without incident.

Driver unharmed, investigation ongoing

Police said the driver remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators. No citations or charges have been announced.

The Berkeley Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Route 9 remained open during the response, though traffic slowed as emergency units cleared the area.
