Knife dispute inside Columbia Road business ends in bloodshed and arrest

WASHINGTON, DC — A late-night dispute inside a Northwest business escalated into violence when a woman allegedly brandished a knife and cut a man who tried to intervene, police said.

The incident unfolded at approximately 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 1700 block of Columbia Road Northwest. According to investigators, a suspect displayed a knife during an argument inside the establishment.

A second victim stepped in during the confrontation and was cut by the suspect, authorities said. The suspect then fled the scene.

Responding Third District officers located the suspect nearby and recovered a knife. The individual was taken into custody without further incident.

DC Fire and EMS treated the injured victim at the scene for injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Sarita Middleton, 45, of Southeast D.C., was arrested and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon Knife.

The investigation remains ongoing.
