Woman charged after alleged assault at Cumberland park

Police say a woman repeatedly punched another person during an encounter at a city park on Greene Street.

CUMBERLAND, Md. — A West Virginia woman has been charged after police say she assaulted another person at a Cumberland city park.

The Cumberland Police Department said officers served a criminal summons Thursday on 35-year-old Amber Nichole Jefferson of Ridgeley, West Virginia.

According to police, the victim reported being approached by Jefferson at a city park on Greene Street.

Investigators allege Jefferson struck the victim several times with punches.

Jefferson was charged with second-degree assault and released pending trial.

The charge is an allegation, and Jefferson is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
