Police said a 53-year-old woman died Wednesday afternoon after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound at Chinn Park Recreation Center in Woodbridge.
Prince William County police are investigating a death that occurred at the soccer fields of Chinn Park Recreation Center on Wednesday afternoon.
Officers were dispatched to the park, located at 13025 Chinn Park Drive in Woodbridge, at approximately 3:23 p.m. after receiving a report of a person in crisis.
Officers Responded to Person in Crisis Call
According to police, officers arrived at the scene and encountered a 53-year-old woman near the soccer fields.
Authorities said the woman produced a firearm and inflicted a fatal injury upon herself as officers arrived.
Police reported that officers immediately began life-saving efforts at the scene.
Investigation Ongoing
Despite those efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the recreation center.
Investigators said preliminary findings indicate there were no signs of foul play and no threat to the community related to the incident.
