A “For Sale” sign posted outside Manchester Township High School caught the attention of passing motorists and quickly generated questions from residents worried the district might be preparing to sell the school.
The concern was understandable given recent school consolidation and property sales in neighboring Jackson Township, where district officials have sold multiple school buildings amid ongoing financial challenges.
Recent School Sales Raised Concerns
Jackson Township recently sold Sylvia Rosenauer Elementary School and the former Christa McAuliffe Middle School, a building that had previously earned National Blue Ribbon School recognition.
The district also combined students from Liberty High School and Jackson Memorial High School under a restructuring plan that drew significant public attention.
With those changes fresh in residents’ minds, some feared Manchester Township could be considering similar moves.
Sign Part of Senior Prank Day
Those concerns, however, turned out to be unfounded.
The sign was not connected to any district plans to sell Manchester Township High School and was instead part of a senior prank organized during the school’s annual senior prank day activities.
No proposal to sell the high school has been announced by the Manchester Township School District.
No Plans to Sell School
While the prank may have caused a few anxious moments for residents, Manchester Township High School is not on the market, but it did hit very close to the worries and fears on many residents in the community.
The sign awas a lighthearted joke by graduating seniors that gained extra attention because of the high-profile school closures, consolidations, and property sales that have recently occurred in nearby communities.
