State police allege a former teacher at a Newark child care center lifted a 3-year-old by the neck and forcefully grabbed his wrist, leaving the child with injuries.

Newark, DE – A former employee at a Newark child care facility has been arrested following a Delaware State Police investigation into allegations that she physically abused a 3-year-old child in her care.

According to Delaware State Police, 46-year-old Neha Gour of Hockessin was charged after detectives investigated an incident at the Delaware Technical Community College Stanton Childhood Development Center, located at 400 Stanton-Christiana Road.

The investigation began in late April after the child’s mother sought medical treatment when she noticed bruising on her son’s wrist.

Detectives reviewed evidence

During the investigation, detectives reviewed evidence and determined that Gour, who was employed as a teacher at the time of the incident, allegedly picked up the 3-year-old by the neck and placed him in a chair.

Police said the child cried and grabbed his neck following the incident.

Investigators further alleged that Gour then forcefully grabbed the child’s wrist and led him to another area of the classroom.

Arrest warrant obtained

Following the investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Gour in connection with the alleged abuse.

Delaware State Police did not immediately release additional information regarding the charges or court proceedings.
