Woman killed while walking dog in sidewalk crash in Derwood

DERWOOD, MD — A 69-year-old woman was killed Monday morning after being struck by a vehicle while walking her dog along a sidewalk in Derwood, according to Montgomery County Police.

The fatal collision occurred at approximately 11:39 a.m. on July 7 at the intersection of Muncaster Mill Road and Applewood Lane. Officers from the 6th District and Montgomery County Fire Rescue responded to the scene.

The victim, identified as Joan Debra Voith of Derwood, was walking her dog along the sidewalk when a brown 2017 Buick Envision left the roadway and struck her. The dog was not injured.

Police said the driver of the Buick remained at the scene following the incident. No charges have been announced at this time.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash and is asking anyone who witnessed the incident to call (240) 773-6620.
