Woman Shot Dead Inside Home, Man Arrested

ROSTRAVER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A woman was shot and killed late Wednesday night in Rostraver Township, prompting the arrest of a 34-year-old man at the scene, authorities said.

Police and county detectives responded to a home on the 900 block of Route 136 shortly before 11 p.m. after a child inside the residence called 911 to report a shooting. Officers arrived to find Robert Chaplin, 34, standing outside in the driveway.

Inside the home, officers discovered 35-year-old Estela Rivera Vasquez lying on the basement floor near a basement door. She was transported to Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital, where she was pronounced dead about an hour later.

Authorities have not disclosed details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting or any potential charges against Chaplin. The investigation is being handled by the Rostraver Township Police Department and the Westmoreland County Detective Bureau.
