She was originally scheduled to be executed in December, but her lawyers were diagnosed with COVID-19 and argued for a postponement. Now, the woman who kid Skidmore, Missouri mom-to-be Bobbie Joe Stinnett will be executed on January 12th. Stinnett was eight months pregnant when it happened. She and her husband were dog breeders and met Lisa Montgomery in an online chat room call “Ratter Chatter”, where lovers of Rat Terriers would meet and share pictures and stories about their dogs. The two women exchanged emails and stories also about their pregnancies. It’s suspected that Montgomery had been pregnant earlier, but had a miscarriage.
Montgomery posed as a customer and on December 16, 2004, arrived at Stinnett’s home-based business under the guise of adopting a dog.
Instead, she brutally murdered Stinnett, cut open her body, and kidnapped her baby.
In December 2004, as part of a premeditated murder-kidnap scheme, Montgomery drove from her home in Kansas to Stinnett’s home in Missouri, purportedly to purchase a puppy. Once inside the residence, Montgomery attacked and strangled Stinnett—who was eight months pregnant—until the victim lost consciousness.
Using a kitchen knife, Montgomery then cut into Stinnett’s abdomen, causing her to regain consciousness. A struggle ensued, and Montgomery strangled Stinnett to death. Montgomery then removed the baby from Stinnett’s body, took the baby with her, and attempted to pass it off as her own. Montgomery subsequently confessed to murdering Stinnett and abducting her child.
In October 2007, a jury in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri found Montgomery guilty of federal kidnapping resulting in death, and unanimously recommended a death sentence, which the court imposed. Her conviction and sentence were affirmed on appeal, and her request for collateral relief was rejected by every court that considered it.
Montgomery is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection on January 12th, at U.S. Penitentiary Terre Haute, Indiana. She is the only woman on death row in America and would be the first woman executed in the United States since 1953 when Bonnie Brown Heady was executed for kidnapping and murder.
The mainstream media has turned Montgomery’s execution into a political issue against President Donald J. Trump, but fact checking shows she was convicted during the administration of George W. Bush and remained on death row through the entire administration of President Barack Obama. In 2008, a federal judge under the Obama administration’s Justice Department upheld her order of execution.
In 2012, the Supreme Court, under President Barack Obama denied a motion by Montgomery’s lawyers and was placed in federal prison. She will be only the fourth woman in American history to be executed by the U.S. Government.
