WOODBRIDGE, VA—A tense situation unfolded in Woodbridge when police responded to a call involving a person in a mental health crisis. The incident took place at a residence in the 15300 block of Bronco Way at approximately 9:24 PM on July 27.
Upon arrival, officers were confronted by Hamza Boufnichal, 24, who brandished a knife and refused to obey commands. Despite the volatile situation, police were able to detain Boufnichal without any injuries occurring. It was determined that he was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
Boufnichal has been charged with two counts of attempted malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer and one count of public intoxication. He is currently held without bond, awaiting a court date.
