FORKED RIVER, NJ – Shelter staff at the Associated Humane Societies Forked River branch are pleading for help as a 1½-year-old dog named Scooby faces relocation to another kennel within two weeks, a move they fear will add more stress to a pup already struggling in the shelter environment.
Scooby, still barely out of puppyhood, has spent much of his young life behind kennel doors instead of learning what it means to be part of a family. Staff say the energetic, intelligent dog is full of potential and simply needs a structured home and a patient adopter willing to give him the chance to thrive.
According to AHS, Scooby is highly trainable and eager to learn. He could live with other dogs but is not suited for homes with cats. Because of his energy and size, he would do best in a home with teenagers or adults, as young children can be overwhelming for him.
The shelter’s greatest concern is that Scooby’s time is running short. With only two weeks before he’s moved to a different kennel, staff worry the transition could further unsettle him and make it harder for him to find a permanent home. They say the move is not a punishment but a logistical necessity — one they hope to avoid if a foster or adopter steps forward in time.
Twenty Paws Rescue has offered to support Scooby if a foster home can be found, but the clock is ticking. Shelter workers describe him as a bright, loving dog who simply needs the right person to guide him through his early years.
Scooby is available for adoption or foster at the Associated Humane Societies Forked River shelter. Those interested can apply online at ahscares.org/adopt or reach out to Twenty Paws Rescue for foster coordination.
