911 hang up leads cops to deadly DC shooting
Washington, DC – A predawn emergency call led officers to a deadly scene inside a Northwest residence, where a young woman was found shot and later pronounced dead, launching a homicide investigation.
The shooting was discovered shortly after 3 a.m. Monday when officers responded to a 911 hang-up call in the 3100 block of 16th Street, Northwest. Inside the residence, officers found an adult female suffering from a gunshot wound.
Fire and EMS crews responded but found no signs consistent with life. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman has been identified as 27-year-old Nyesha Walden-Hatcher of Northwest, D.C. Detectives are working to determine the circumstances that led up to the shooting.
The Metropolitan Police Department said the investigation remains active and urged anyone with information to come forward. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for homicides in the District.
