Troopers called to Smyrna home before child’s death investigation was turned over to Homicide Unit

SMYRNA, Del. — A 10-year-old girl was found dead inside her bedroom during the early morning hours Thursday, prompting Delaware State Police homicide detectives to launch an active investigation.

According to Delaware State Police, troopers responded at approximately 2 a.m. Thursday to a residence on Oakwynn Circle in Smyrna after the child was discovered deceased in her bedroom.

As responding troopers began their initial investigation, they requested assistance from the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit, which has since assumed control of the case.

Authorities have not released the girl’s identity or disclosed any details regarding the circumstances surrounding her death.

The victim was transported to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science, where officials will determine the cause and manner of death.

State police described the investigation as active and ongoing.

No additional information was immediately available.
