NEWARK, Del. – A motorcyclist was killed Friday night in a collision with a sedan on Elkton Road in Newark, according to the Newark Police Department.
Officers responded at approximately 9:01 p.m. to Elkton Road at Thorn Lane after receiving a report of a crash involving a motorcycle and sedan. Emergency crews found the motorcycle operator at the scene, where the rider was pronounced dead.
The sedan driver was treated by emergency personnel and transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Police said the driver was admitted with injuries considered non-life-threatening.

- Police said the northeastbound sedan was turning left toward Thorn Lane when the motorcycle struck its passenger side.

Police Detail How Fatal Newark Motorcycle Crash Happened
The preliminary investigation indicates the motorcycle and sedan were traveling in opposite directions on Elkton Road shortly before the collision.
“The sedan turned left towards Thorn Lane, and as it did, the motorcycle struck the passenger side of the sedan,” Newark Police said in its crash report.
Police have not said whether speed, impairment, distraction or another factor contributed to the collision. No charges or traffic citations were announced in the initial report.
Personnel from Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Fire Company and New Castle County Paramedics responded and provided medical assistance.
The motorcyclist could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the crash scene. The sedan driver was the only other patient identified by police.
Elkton Road Closed for About Four Hours
The Newark Police Traffic Response Unit responded to investigate the fatal collision, and the roadway remained closed overnight for approximately four hours while officers worked at the scene.
The investigation remained active Saturday. Police said the motorcyclist’s name was being withheld until relatives could be notified.
The crash occurred in Delaware, where the investigation is being handled by Newark Police rather than Delaware State Police.
