ANNAPOLIS, Md. — An Annapolis woman who plans to retire this year received an unexpected boost to her plans after winning a $50,000 third-tier Powerball prize. The winner, using the alias “Navy Brat,” credited her late father with inspiring her lucky quick-pick ticket for the January 11 drawing.
“My dad and I used to do scratch-offs when he was sick. When I think of my dad, I buy Lottery tickets,” she explained. She purchased two Powerball combinations at Green Valley Marketplace in Arnold and later discovered her good fortune.
“Much to my surprise, when I checked, I had won,” she said. “I had to check it twice. I had to get my glasses because all the zeros made it hard to read.” After confirming the win, she shared the news with her two adult children and close friends.
The Anne Arundel County resident plans to use her $50,000 prize to bolster her financial confidence as she moves into retirement this year. While the win solidified her timing, “Navy Brat” said she might play again in the future when she feels a connection to her father.
The winning $4 quick-pick ticket was purchased at Green Valley Marketplace on Bay Dale Drive, which will receive a bonus for selling the prize-winning ticket.
