Bronx, NY — District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced today that Israel Flores, a 29-year-old Bronx man, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend, Denise Caamano.
“The defendant killed his girlfriend, a 24-year-old woman, during a fight in her apartment. It was a senseless loss of life and now he will spend many years in prison,” said District Attorney Clark.
Flores was sentenced to 25 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision on May 22, 2024, by Bronx Supreme Court Justice Audrey Stone. He pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter on March 27, 2024.
According to the investigation, on February 24, 2022, at approximately 7:00 a.m., Flores called 911, claiming he had been asleep and awoke to find his girlfriend dead with her throat slit, and his own throat cut as well. When police arrived at the apartment at 2091 Arthur Avenue, they found Caamano’s lifeless body with a gaping wound to her throat, suggesting the murder had occurred hours before the 911 call. An orange box cutter was found on the floor under the bed, and there were no signs of forced entry.
Flores was treated at a hospital for his neck wound and later confessed that he cut Caamano’s throat after she had slapped him and threatened him with the box cutter. He stated that he took the box cutter from her and then slashed her throat.
