Suspect Wanted for Strangulation Locked Himself Inside Closet

CUMBERLAND, MD – On June 17, at approximately 11:30 a.m., the Cumberland City Police Department responded to an assault call at a residence on the 200 block of Humbird Street. Officers arrived to find a victim with visible injuries to their neck and body.

The victim reported that Garrett Kniseley, 26, had struck and strangled them. Kniseley had barricaded himself in a closet before the officers arrived. The police were able to persuade Kniseley to surrender, and he was arrested without further incident.

Kniseley was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center for central booking. After a hearing before a District Court Commissioner, he was held without bond. The victim was taken to a medical facility for treatment.

Kniseley faces charges of first-degree and second-degree assault.
