DOVER, DE – Jesus Torres, a 34-year-old Dover resident, was arrested on multiple charges including drug offenses and resisting arrest, following a pursuit near Seaford. The arrest, conducted by the Sussex County Governor’s Task Force, took place on July 16, 2024.
The incident began at approximately 3:47 p.m. when a detective observed Torres failing to use his turn signal while driving an Acura MDX on German Road from Concord Pond Road. Torres did not initially stop when the detective attempted to pull him over, leading to a brief pursuit that ended at a dead-end on Jewell Street.
Upon stopping, Torres resisted arrest, failing to comply with verbal commands and physically assaulting the detective by striking him several times. He briefly escaped on foot but was soon apprehended by law enforcement. A subsequent search of the Acura revealed approximately 21.95 grams of powder cocaine and $932 in cash, suspected to be drug-dealing proceeds.
Torres was transported to Troop 5, where he was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance (Tier 3 felony), resisting arrest with force or violence (felony), disregarding a police officer’s signal (felony), offensive touching of a law enforcement officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to signal. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $23,501 cash bond.
