Swift Response to Carbon Monoxide Leak at Yerwood Center

STAMFORD, CT – A carbon monoxide incident at the Yerwood Center prompted an urgent response from the Stamford Fire Department on August 1. The emergency call led to the dispatch of Engine 3 from the West Side Fire Station, which reached the site at 90 Fairfield Avenue within two minutes.

Upon arrival, firefighters found that the building had been preemptively evacuated by staff. Immediate assessments revealed elevated levels of carbon monoxide throughout the facility. Additional fire units were called to the scene to help identify the source of the leak and to aid in ventilation efforts.

Thirteen individuals were evaluated on-site by fire and Stamford EMS personnel for exposure to the toxic gas, with one person requiring transportation to Stamford Hospital for further medical attention. In total, 24 firefighters were involved in managing the situation.

The operation saw no injuries among the responders. Support was also provided by the Stamford Police Department, Stamford Emergency Medical Services, and the Stamford Fire Department Mechanical Division.
