BALTIMORE, Md. — A Baltimore resident is celebrating a life-changing win after claiming a $50,000 instant top prize on THE BIG SPIN scratch-off game. The lucky winner, who prefers to remain anonymous, purchased the winning ticket at Selma’s Liquors, located at 4600 Washington Boulevard in Baltimore County.
The man’s big win came after he made a stop at the liquor store following a day of work. He originally intended only to play his midday numbers, but a spur-of-the-moment decision led him to buy two of THE BIG SPIN scratch-off tickets. His curiosity was piqued after seeing another customer buy four of the same game.
“I saw the guy in front of me buy a few, so I thought, why not try it?” the winner said while recounting his experience to Lottery officials. He scratched off the prize check area of the first ticket and found it to be a non-winner. However, the second ticket revealed the surprise of a lifetime.
“The first one wasn’t a winner,” he said with a smile. “But the second one said, ‘Congratulations, $50,000 winner.’”
In disbelief, he asked the store cashier to verify the win, which the employee confirmed. “When he told me that, I looked at him and said, ‘See you later,’” the winner recalled, still chuckling at the memory.
The winner quickly called his wife to share the exciting news. “He called and said, ‘You’re rich,’” she said, beaming with joy as she accompanied him to Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim the prize.
Though he was unaware of the game’s Big Spin Wheel feature, which allows players to win between $50,000 and $250,000 at Lottery headquarters, the winner expressed satisfaction with his $50,000 prize. He has not yet decided how he will use his windfall.
Selma’s Liquors will also benefit from the win, receiving a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the top-prize winning ticket.
THE BIG SPIN scratch-off, which has been on sale since April, continues to create winners across Maryland. To date, four players have visited Lottery headquarters to spin The Big Spin Wheel, with four more opportunities remaining for future winners. Additionally, one $50,000 instant top prize is still available.
