Man sentenced to 30 years for killing ex-girlfriend’s partner in D.C.

September 8, 2024

WASHINGTON — A 24-year-old man was sentenced Friday to 30 years in prison for the 2022 killing of his ex-girlfriend’s new romantic partner, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia. Marcus Walker, of Washington, D.C., was convicted in May of second-degree murder while armed, among other charges, in the fatal shooting of Erik King.

Superior Court Judge Robert Okun handed down the sentence after a jury found Walker guilty of multiple charges, including assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, and cruelty to children. The incident took place on Oct. 11, 2022, in Northeast Washington.

Walker reportedly shot King in the chest and lower body after confronting him and Walker’s ex-girlfriend in her apartment. The shooting occurred after Walker, upset that the couple was engaging in sexual activity, broke into a locked bedroom and fired multiple rounds. A six-year-old child was in the room at the time of the shooting.

In addition to the prison term, Walker will serve five years of supervised release. U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith commended the law enforcement officials and legal team involved in the case.
