GAITHERSBURG, Md. — Montgomery County detectives are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred early Sunday morning on New Hampshire Avenue near Rodney Road. The incident, which claimed the life of a WSSC Water employee, remains under investigation by the department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU).
Officers from the 3rd District and Montgomery County Fire Rescue responded to the scene at approximately 4:40 a.m. on September 8 after receiving reports of a pedestrian being struck. The pedestrian, identified as 39-year-old Ernest Joseph Dyson of Clinton, was working at the time of the incident.
According to the initial investigation, Dyson was hit by a black 2011 Volkswagen CC driven by an intoxicated driver heading southbound on New Hampshire Avenue. Dyson was pronounced dead at the scene.
