Newark Police Investigating Deadly Hit and Run

Newark, DE – The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian that took place on Friday night in Newark.

The incident occurred on Friday at approximately 7:26 p.m. An unidentified vehicle was traveling east on East Chestnut Hill Road when it struck a pedestrian walking south across the eastbound lanes. After striking the pedestrian, the vehicle fled the scene eastbound on East Chestnut Hill Road.

The victim, a 37-year-old Newark resident, was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries. On Monday, he succumbed to these injuries. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of family members.

The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit is actively investigating the case. They are appealing to the public for assistance, urging those with information to reach out to Master Corporal R. Kunicki at (302) 365-8488.
