PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — A 28-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault after attacking a Popeyes employee late Tuesday night, police said. The incident occurred around 11:04 p.m. at the Popeyes restaurant located at 6000 N. Broad St.
According to police, the altercation began when the suspect, identified as Yannick Kelly, attempted to enter the restaurant as it was closing. An employee informed Kelly that they were no longer taking orders, but he forced his way inside and grabbed the employee by the neck, choking him. In an effort to defend himself, the employee used a pocket knife to stab Kelly.
Other employees intervened, and Kelly fled the scene. Officers responding to the report of an aggravated assault found a trail of blood leading northbound on Broad Street. They followed it to a residence in the 60xx block of N. Broad St., where they discovered Kelly in a bedroom, bleeding.
Kelly was transported to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he was treated and remains in stable condition. He has been charged with aggravated assault, strangulation, simple assault, and related offenses, according to authorities.
No other injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
