Upper Moreland police issue 14 citations after tobacco and vape compliance checks

UPPER MORELAND, Pa. — The Upper Moreland Police Department, in collaboration with the Council of Southeast Pennsylvania, conducted compliance checks at local businesses following multiple complaints from parents about underage sales of tobacco and vape products. The operation aimed to enforce Pennsylvania state laws regulating the sale of such products to individuals under 21.

According to a statement from the department, compliance checks were carried out at 17 of the 27 licensed stores within Upper Moreland Township. The Council of Southeast Pennsylvania, contracted by the state’s Department of Health, partnered with the police to carry out the checks and to educate businesses and employees about the relevant laws.

During the checks, 11 of the 17 stores inspected were found in violation of state law for selling tobacco or vape products to individuals under the legal age limit. Police issued a total of 14 citations to the businesses and their employees involved in the violations.

The police department emphasized its ongoing commitment to addressing community concerns and upholding state regulations, while the Council of Southeast Pennsylvania continues its efforts to educate businesses on lawful sales practices.
