BRONX, N.Y. — A Bronx man has been indicted on multiple charges after he was found carrying a disassembled assault-style rifle and ammunition inside a subway station, the Bronx District Attorney announced Wednesday.
Abraham Sosa, 20, allegedly entered a restricted tunnel at the Kingsbridge Road subway station on November 5 and resisted arrest when approached by NYPD Transit Officers, according to the indictment. The officers said the weapon—a semiautomatic rifle—was found in two parts in his backpack, along with a defaced serial number and 25 rounds of ammunition, including one round chambered in the firearm.
The indictment includes two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and several other charges, including assault and trespass. Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark emphasized the public safety risks posed by firearms in transit systems. “We will not tolerate firearms in public places, especially high-powered weapons that can cause mass injuries,” Clark said in a statement.
According to authorities, Sosa allegedly resisted arrest and attempted to flee the scene, knocking three officers to the ground. The incident unfolded around 4:30 p.m. and led to his apprehension in the subway tunnel. He was arraigned on December 6, with bail set at $25,000 cash or $75,000 bond, and is scheduled to return to court on March 26, 2025.
Prosecutors noted the ammunition found in Sosa’s possession was commonly used for hunting. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the firearm’s origin and the defaced serial number.
