Columbus police seek video footage in deadly stabbing investigation

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Detectives are requesting public assistance in their investigation of a homicide that occurred Wednesday morning on the city’s northeast side.

Officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of N. Grant Avenue at approximately 7:31 a.m. following a report of an unconscious male. When they arrived, they found 22-year-old Amareyon Daniels with apparent stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene eight minutes later, at 7:39 a.m.

Shortly afterward, at 7:44 a.m., Courtney Webb transported Shavar Johnson to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to his hand. The two told detectives that Daniels had attacked Webb and that Johnson was injured while defending her.

However, police say their investigation revealed that Webb had met with Daniels and that Johnson initiated the attack, ultimately leading to Daniels’ death. Detectives have since charged Webb with obstructing justice and Johnson with murder.

Authorities are now seeking surveillance footage related to the incident. Investigators are asking individuals in the area to upload any footage of Daniels, Johnson, Webb, or the black 2011 Chevrolet HHR Webb was driving, which displayed Ohio license plate JMJ-2728.
