Final Triple Red 777s ticket delivers life-changing prize
PERRYVILLE, Md. — The last Triple Red 777s scratch-off ticket left in a vending machine turned into a $1 million prize for a Cecil County man after he decided to copy the purchase of the customer ahead of him.
The Maryland Lottery said the Cecil County resident, who goes by the nickname “Mr. Money Bags,” stopped at the Royal Farms at 1825 Perryville Road in Perryville after picking up his children from a babysitter.
While waiting in line, he watched another customer buy several $20 Triple Red 777s scratch-offs. Only one ticket remained in the vending machine, so he decided to buy it.
Back home, he scratched the ticket in his kitchen using his usual routine of revealing the symbols before uncovering the prize amount.
When he revealed the winnings, he discovered he had hit the game’s $1 million top prize.
The winner said he was speechless. A friend who was with him celebrated by picking him up and giving him a hug. He later shared the news with his wife and in-laws.
An auto-body mechanic, the winner said he is now considering early retirement. He also plans to invest part of the prize and take a vacation.
Royal Farms will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
Triple Red 777s launched in May with five $1 million top prizes. Following this win, three top prizes remain unclaimed, along with prizes ranging from $20 to $50,000.
