17-year-old victim identified as police offer $25K reward
WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 17-year-old who was critically wounded in a shooting in Northwest DC has died, and the case is now being investigated as a homicide.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded at approximately 12:09 a.m. on July 23 to the 2900 block of 1st Street, Northwest DC, after receiving reports of a shooting.
Officers found the teenage victim unconscious and not breathing with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police identified the victim as 17-year-old Makai Smith of Northeast DC. He died at the hospital on Aug. 2 despite lifesaving efforts.
The Metropolitan Police Department is continuing its homicide investigation.
