WASHINGTON, D.C. – Illegal firearms were recovered across neighborhoods in the District last week, with 45 weapons seized between December 2 and December 9 as part of a coordinated effort to reduce gun violence and criminal activity.
Among the firearms recovered were multiple high-powered weapons, including assault rifles, “ghost guns” with no serial numbers, and handguns equipped with large-capacity ammunition feeding devices. The seizures resulted in numerous arrests, with suspects ranging from juveniles to adults.
Charges included carrying a pistol without a license, possession of unregistered firearms and ammunition, possession of large-capacity magazines, and offenses such as robbery, carjacking, and possession with intent to distribute controlled substances. Several recoveries occurred in neighborhoods across Northeast, Southeast, Northwest, and Southwest D.C.
One notable arrest involved a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old male in Northwest D.C., who were found with a ghost gun, marijuana packaged for distribution, and a large-capacity magazine. Another recovery involved multiple firearms seized in Southwest D.C., including an assault rifle and a .50 caliber Desert Eagle handgun.
The effort to remove illegal firearms from D.C. streets involved intelligence-driven policing and tips from the community, with rewards of up to $2,500 available for information leading to arrests and firearm seizures.
