SELBYVILLE, Del. — A 60-year-old man was killed in a head-on crash Wednesday afternoon after his Jeep Gladiator veered into oncoming traffic on Hudson Road, Delaware State Police said.

The crash occurred around 2:44 p.m. north of Lynch Road when the southbound Jeep crossed into the northbound lane and collided with a Freightliner tractor. The tractor’s driver attempted to swerve but was unable to avoid the impact.

The Jeep’s driver, a Selbyville resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending family notification. The Freightliner’s driver, a 60-year-old man from Dover, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.

The roadway was closed for about four hours as the Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fatal crash.
