HOCKESSIN, Del. – A two-year-old boy died, and four others were injured in a head-on collision involving a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a tractor-trailer Sunday afternoon, Delaware State Police said.

The crash occurred around 4:09 p.m. on March 2, when the southbound Jeep crossed into the northbound lane of Newport Gap Pike near Valley Lane and collided with a Freightliner tractor-trailer, authorities said.

The two-year-old, a passenger in the Jeep, was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His identity is being withheld pending family notification. The Jeep’s driver, a 36-year-old man from Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, sustained serious injuries, while three other passengers—a 34-year-old woman, a 16-year-old boy, and an 11-year-old girl—suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The 60-year-old driver of the Freightliner, from North East, Maryland, was not injured. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
