New Jersey Senate approves bill allowing special events on preserved farms

TRENTON, N.J. – The New Jersey Senate has passed a bipartisan bill sponsored by Senator Joe Pennacchio (R-26) that would allow preserved farms to host special occasion events while maintaining their primary agricultural use.

The legislation permits farms to utilize recently constructed permanent structures for events, provided that total event revenue does not exceed 10% of the farm’s total annual revenue.

“Farmers should have the opportunity to generate additional income from their property, especially when it’s done in a way that does not jeopardize the primary use of the land for agriculture,” Pennacchio said.

The bill now moves to the Assembly for further consideration.
