Montgomery County police investigating deadly shooting in Silver Spring

GAITHERSBURG, Md. – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating the homicide of 23-year-old Jonah Kimindo Mutua, who was fatally shot on Saturday, March 8, 2025, in the 2700 block of Fairdale Terrace in Silver Spring.

Officers responded to the scene at approximately 11:04 a.m. after receiving a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found Mutua suffering from gunshot wounds in a parking lot. Despite lifesaving efforts from a good Samaritan, first responding officers, and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel, Mutua was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore confirmed the manner of death as homicide.

Detectives are actively investigating and seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspect.
