NEW YORK, NY — Police are searching for a 51-year-old man accused of sexually violating the corpse of a homeless man on a New York City subway platform after allegedly stealing from him. Authorities say Carlos Garcia is wanted in connection with the shocking incident that unfolded in a Manhattan station earlier this week.

Incident under investigation

The disturbing encounter was first reported by Gothamist, which cited law enforcement sources and a police wanted poster. According to the report, Garcia is accused of “sexually assaulting the victim by penetrating his mouth and anus.” The man he allegedly assaulted had already been declared deceased when Garcia encountered the body.

Authorities confirmed the deceased was a homeless man, found lifeless at a subway station. One hour before Garcia’s alleged actions, another individual is believed to have robbed the body, marking two separate violations involving the same victim.

NYPD identifies suspect

The NYPD has identified Garcia as the suspect in the second incident and says investigators have “probable cause” to arrest him for sexual misconduct involving a dead human body. Police have not disclosed further details on how Garcia was identified or whether surveillance footage was involved.
