A woman from District Heights, Maryland, claimed the first $50,000 top prize from the Maryland Lottery’s Let’s Make a Deal scratch-off game after purchasing a $5 ticket during a routine shopping trip with her sister.
The Prince George’s County resident bought the ticket last Sunday at Tony’s Liquors on Laurel-Bowie Road in Laurel. She scratched the ticket at home and was stunned to discover the $50,000 win. “I saw that I matched the ‘8’ to one of the winning numbers and thought, ‘this can’t be real,’” said the retired hospitality worker. Her sister confirmed the win using a mobile ticket scanner.
The pair traveled to the Maryland Lottery’s Claim Center in Baltimore earlier this week to officially claim the prize. The winner shared that she plans to use the funds for home improvements.
Tony’s Liquors, the retailer that sold the winning ticket, will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize ticket.
