GIG HARBOR, W.A. — A 25-year-old Washington man has been arrested in connection with the deaths of his father and older brother, whose bodies were found inside a burned residence in Gig Harbor last month, authorities confirmed.

Luis Miguel Huitron-Campos was taken into custody Tuesday following a Pierce County Sheriff’s Office investigation into the April 8 house fire that led to the discovery of the two victims. According to court documents obtained by KOMO, both men had sustained gunshot wounds to the head before the home was set on fire.

The victims, identified by investigators as a 64-year-old father and his 31-year-old son, were found dead inside the residence. The medical examiner determined that the father was still alive when the fire was set, though both ultimately died at the scene.

Huitron-Campos is the son of the 64-year-old and the younger brother of the 31-year-old victim. He reportedly did not attend the memorial services for either of his relatives.

Court records indicate that Huitron-Campos had been uncooperative with authorities in the immediate aftermath of the fire. KIRO reported that a family member contacted police on April 10, saying they were unable to reach him.

“Huitron-Campos had not been cooperative with police immediately following the fire,” KOMO reported.

Investigators cite lack of cooperation and absence from memorials

Police have not disclosed a motive, but the investigation revealed that both victims were shot before the home was set ablaze. Authorities did not release the names of the deceased, but confirmed their relationship to the suspect.

Huitron-Campos is currently being held pending formal charges. It is unclear if he has retained legal counsel.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office and Gig Harbor Fire and Rescue continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire and homicides.
