One hit, one cuffed as d. C. Metro shootout erupts

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A man was wounded and one suspect arrested following a daytime shooting near the busy Waterfront Metro station in Southwest D.C. on Monday.

Just after 1:20 p.m., gunshots erupted near the 1100 block of 4th Street SW. Responding First District officers found an adult male victim with a graze wound. He was conscious and breathing when emergency crews arrived and transported him to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Investigators say two individuals began firing near the Metro station before fleeing the scene. The man who was injured is not believed to have been involved in the incident.

Police detained a suspect shortly after the shooting and recovered a firearm. The suspect was identified as 25-year-old Daquan Toland of Northwest D.C. He has been charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun).

Two suspects still at large

Authorities are still searching for two additional suspects in connection with the shooting. Surveillance images of the individuals have been released to the public.

The investigation remains active as law enforcement continues to track the remaining suspects.
