JACKSON, N.J. — The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for Western Monmouth, Ocean, and Southeastern Burlington Counties beginning Sunday morning and lasting through 8 p.m. Wednesday, citing dangerously high temperatures and heat index values expected to reach up to 107 degrees.

According to the alert, the hottest conditions will occur Monday and Tuesday, with daytime highs reaching the upper 90s to low 100s and overnight lows in the upper 70s. High humidity levels will contribute to limited relief during nighttime hours.

The warning, issued at 2:06 a.m. Sunday by the NWS office in Mount Holly, emphasizes that heat-related illnesses increase significantly during such prolonged periods of extreme heat and high humidity.

In addition to the heat warning, a Code Orange Air Quality Alert has also been declared for Ocean and Southeastern Burlington Counties. Air pollution levels are expected to become unhealthy for sensitive groups, including children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory or heart conditions.

Extended heat and air quality outlook

Forecasters say conditions Sunday will be mostly sunny with a high near 95 and a heat index up to 102. There is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 3 p.m. and again after 4 p.m. Winds will be from the west at 5 to 10 mph.

Monday and Tuesday are forecast to be sunny and hot, with highs near 99 and 101 degrees, respectively. Heat index values on both days could reach as high as 105. Overnight lows will remain in the upper 70s.

Officials advise residents to stay hydrated, remain in air-conditioned spaces when possible, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities. Additional resources, including shelter information, can be accessed by calling 211.
