A Severn man has claimed over $100,000 in a second-chance lottery win after scanning in non-winning tickets.

SEVERN, MD — Junior Egbuforma of Severn took home $104,768 after winning the Rolling Cash Jackpot in the final drawing of the Maryland Lottery’s MONOPOLY second-chance promotion.

Egbuforma, a medical worker, said he was initially skeptical when he received an email about the win. It wasn’t until he received a handwritten letter from the Lottery that he began to believe it might be real. “I told my wife, ‘Let me check it out and call,’” he said. The Lottery later confirmed his prize.

The Anne Arundel County resident credited a veteran he met while working at the Veterans Administration for introducing him to the My Lottery Rewards program, which allows players to enter non-winning tickets for second-chance drawings.

“A veteran told me to scan in those tickets!” he said.

Egbuforma said the prize will go toward his children’s college education. He joins other recent winners from the promotion, including Jenelle Ballard of Glen Burnie, who won $133,542, and Jocelyn Quinitchette of Laurel, who won $112,853.
