ELKINS, W.Va. — A Hardy County man has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for conspiring to distribute large quantities of methamphetamine in the region.

Wesley Neal Carter, 35, of Moorefield, was sentenced to 240 months behind bars after investigators found nearly three pounds of methamphetamine on his property. Prosecutors said Carter supplied meth to others for distribution across Hardy County.

According to court documents, a search warrant executed at Carter’s home and surrounding property uncovered the drugs. He has prior convictions related to assault and drug offenses.

Following his prison term, Carter will serve five years of supervised release.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Warner. The investigation was conducted by the Potomac Highlands Drug Task Force and the Virginia RUSH Task Force, both operating under the HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) program.
