OAKLAND, N.J. — A 4-year-old boy was killed and three others were injured Thursday afternoon when a vehicle struck multiple pedestrians at a busy Oakland intersection, officials said.

At approximately 3:43 p.m., Oakland police and emergency personnel responded to the intersection of East Oak Street and Ramapo Valley Road (Route 202) following reports that four pedestrians had been hit by a vehicle, according to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella.

The pedestrians — a 32-year-old woman, a 6-year-old boy, a 4-year-old boy, and a 9-month-old girl — were treated on scene by police, EMS, and fire personnel, with medevac helicopters also responding. All four were transported to local hospitals.

The 4-year-old boy died of his injuries after arrival. The 6-year-old boy remains hospitalized with serious injuries. The 32-year-old woman and 9-month-old girl have both been treated and released.

The driver of the vehicle, a 56-year-old woman, remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation, authorities said.

Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Bergen County Fatal Accident Task Force are investigating the crash in coordination with the Oakland Police Department. The circumstances of the collision remain under investigation, and no charges have been announced.
