SADDLE RIVER, N.J. — Two men have been arrested and charged following a shooting incident outside a Saddle River residence that stemmed from an ongoing dispute between two groups, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced.
Jeremiah L. Rivera, 19, of Saddle River, and Sha’zeik Davis, 20, of Mahwah, face multiple charges after gunfire broke out on Tuesday, July 15, around 6:16 p.m. on Chestnut Ridge Road. No injuries were reported, but at least one vehicle was struck by bullets.
Responding officers from the Saddle River Police Department and surrounding agencies discovered ballistic evidence and launched a joint investigation with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit.
Authorities say Rivera fired the initial shot following a verbal dispute with a group of men who arrived at his residence in two vehicles. The group briefly left the scene, but returned minutes later, escalating the altercation. At that point, Davis, who was at the residence and also armed, allegedly fired nine additional rounds, one of which struck a vehicle.
Investigators later determined that Rivera had provided false or misleading information to detectives.
On July 16, Rivera was arrested and charged with second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, providing false information to law enforcement, third-degree aggravated assault, and fourth-degree aggravated assault by pointing a firearm. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail and later released pending court proceedings.
Davis was charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, third-degree aggravated assault, and fourth-degree aggravated assault by pointing a firearm. He was arrested on July 24 in Mahwah with the assistance of the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team and remains in custody pending a court appearance.
