MIDDLETOWN, NJ — Four people have been charged in connection with a deadly June crash on the Garden State Parkway that left one young man dead and another seriously injured, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and New Jersey State Police Colonel Patrick J. Callahan announced Wednesday.
The June 29 crash occurred at approximately 7:04 p.m. near mile marker 130 southbound. When troopers arrived, they found Albion Hysenaj, 20, and a 21-year-old Staten Island resident ejected from a BMW X3 that had rolled over multiple times. Both were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Hysenaj was later pronounced dead; the other passenger suffered serious injuries.
Investigators determined that two vehicles — a BMW X3 driven by Alvi Limani, 20, of Staten Island, and a BMW M5 driven by Jeter Ogando, 23, of Perth Amboy — were racing when Limani’s vehicle struck two others and overturned. Also in the BMW X3 was Emily Harrington, 19, of Staten Island, who was not ejected. Limani and Harrington fled the scene on foot.
According to police, Limani then attempted to flee the country with the help of his mother, Vilma Vneshta, 42. Authorities apprehended the pair near Miami, Florida, on July 17. They are being held pending extradition to New Jersey.
Limani faces a range of charges including first-degree aggravated manslaughter, vehicular homicide, knowingly leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, and multiple endangering counts. He is also charged with fleeing the scene while injured parties remained.
Harrington has been charged with third-degree hindering, obstruction, and conspiracy to endanger another. Vneshta was charged with third-degree hindering for allegedly helping her son attempt to flee.
Ogando, the driver of the second vehicle involved in the racing, is charged with second-degree vehicular homicide, third-degree endangering another, and assault by auto.
“Alvi and Vilma were apprehended by authorities near Miami,” officials confirmed in the report.
All four individuals remain in custody as the investigation continues.
