LONG BEACH, Calif. — A 34-year-old high school baseball coach in Long Beach has been charged with multiple felony sex crimes involving a female student, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday.

Gabriel Vigil, of Long Beach, was arraigned July 28 at the Governor George Deukmejian Courthouse, where he pleaded not guilty to seven felony counts, including sexual penetration of a minor, unlawful sexual intercourse, oral copulation with a minor, and distributing pornography to a minor.

Prosecutors say the alleged incidents occurred between May 1 and July 1 while Vigil was employed as a baseball coach at Cabrillo High School. The conduct reportedly took place at various locations, including Vigil’s apartment.

According to case number 25LBCF01382, Vigil is also charged with contacting a minor for a sexual offense and meeting a minor for lewd purposes. He faces a maximum sentence of eight years in state prison if convicted and would be required to register as a sex offender for life.

District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman stated, “Sex predators who exploit their position of trust in a school setting and target minors should know that my office will work with law enforcement to find you, arrest you, and hold you fully accountable.”

Vigil’s bail was set at $250,000, and a preliminary hearing setting is scheduled for Aug. 4.

Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing and are urging any additional victims to come forward.
