Westfield police address group of juveniles riding bikes recklessly through traffic

WESTFIELD, NJ – Police in Westfield say a group of juveniles caused safety concerns Monday afternoon when they were seen weaving in and out of traffic on bicycles, ignoring past warnings from officers.

According to the department, the incident happened around 4:00 p.m. when officers observed the group riding dangerously through traffic lanes. Police noted that in previous encounters, the same behavior has led the riders to flee from officers, cutting through businesses and yards, which put both the public and themselves at risk.

The department clarified that the activity was not an organized ride after questions surfaced on social media. Instead, officers followed the juveniles to ensure the safety of both motorists and cyclists.

In a statement, police emphasized they do not condone or promote such activity and urged parents and guardians to speak with their children about the dangers of reckless cycling.
