Cape May, NJ – Emergency crews have paused the search efforts after reports of a woman missing in the surf near Madison Avenue early Thursday morning.

Cape May officials said the call came in around 8:10 a.m., prompting a rapid response from Cape May Beach Patrol, police, and fire units, who established a unified command at the scene. Additional resources, including the U.S. Coast Guard, New Jersey State Police Marine Services, Townbank Fire, North Wildwood Fire, and Cape May Public Works, were called in to assist. Private tow services Towboat US and Seatow also joined the operation.

Authorities said the unaccounted-for individual is described as a woman between 30 and 40 years old. As of Thursday afternoon, the U.S. Coast Guard and New Jersey State Police continued active search efforts.
